Silly indie action strategy game

Octogeddon is a new puzzle game from the maker of Plants vs Zombies. Play as a rampaging octopus and battle the forces of humanity.

From the ocean

After the deceptively simple tower defence game Plants vs Zombies became a smash hit and an acquisition by EA, original creator George Fan left the company he created due to differing opinions on future releases. Octogeddon is the first game designed by Fan as part of his new indie studio and features a return to a simple gameplay style with a hidden layer of strategy and planning. The game features a monster octopus who goes on a rampage against the forces of humanity. Each levels revolves around the player surviving waves of enemies by rotating the octopus with a simple left/right control scheme. Each defeated enemy provides a coin which can then be used later to upgrade the octopus with new animal arms for extra abilities. Octogeddon manages to retain the silly spirit of Plants v Zombies but ultimately doesn't have the lasting or mass appeal due to less immediate decision making. Octogeddon can now also be installed on the new operating system, Windows 11.

Making waves

Octogeddon is a fun indie action game with huge boots to fill. Comparisons to Fan's first game are apt, but overall fails to hit those highs.

PROS
